Hello Readers!
If you are reading this article, you must be interested to know a little bit about myself and my husband, Isaak!
For starters, I am not known for being a woman of few words, but I will try to be both concise and authentic as I attempt to show you who we are. Here goes nothing. I am about to be vulnerable…please brace yourself, as I can’t stay at surface-level very long. We will start with where we are now and then give you a glimpse into the history that brought us here.
Present: My husband and I have been married for two years in June, but I am writing this on my own, the reason being, for the entirety of that time, we have worked opposite shifts. We have not had one full day together in a couple of months, minimum. If I had to summarize our first two years, I would say we’ve been met with “many-an-obstacle” but have gradually built our grit to grow through it. It’s been pretty tough, but deeply rewarding when I look back at our wedding photos and see an entirely different couple today, in a positive way. All this to say, we have learned to cope pretty well. However, our opposite schedules don’t create much opportunity to write this article together, for which I apologize. I promise you will be hearing from him at some point, though. 🙂
On a more lighthearted note, we live in a precious apartment with our beautiful kitten, Boots. She joined us last year to keep us company when the other is not around and she is truly a concrete part of our little family (at least as concrete as a cat can be). Speaking of family, both of our families live in the area and we have the gift of being able to spend time with both sides on a regular basis, which is such a blessing. We are both the eldest of four siblings and are proud to be there for our families in whatever way is necessary, especially Isaak. His loyalty is unparalleled. I am the fun-ish older sibling, I think…So I look to him to learn how to lead in integrity and loyalty and he learns how to loosen up a little bit from me, whether he is looking for it or not. 🙂

History: We met at Normandale Community College in politics class. I still find this part humorous since I actually prayed that the Lord would send me someone to help me survive that class, while Isaak was taking it at his leisure. It was our Junior year of high school and we became best friends within the first month of that Spring semester. Our favorite thing to do was walk through the Japanese garden and talk for hours upon hours. I smile thinking about it now because, even though the words “I love you” were not used until engagement, man…that is where I knew I was bound to him in the sweetest way. However, Isaak felt convicted to only date one girl, so we were not prepared to commit to a relationship until we were certain we wanted to do life together (I am still dumbfounded that the Lord allows such young people to make such massive decisions. His thoughts are higher than mine, though).
Long story short, this led to the Lord prompting Isaak to “let [me] go” for an indefinite amount of time, as we had prioritized each other prematurely and had much learning to do. So we began the painful five and a half months apart with almost zero communication or social media in order to deaccelerate the rate at which we fell for each other, and learn to lean on the Lord first and foremost. That was all our teenage broken hearts knew to do. We didn’t know if the Lord would ever grant us peace to be together…but then He did…and guys, it was so beautiful. I am tearful thinking about it. The Lord is just so good.
We embraced for the first time in months in a setting that only our Heavenly Father could have prepared for us. Following that, we made our relationship official just in time for me to go to college across the country in Virginia. We did long-distance for four semesters and were finally in the same place for a month and a half before becoming man and wife on June 22nd, 2019, where the Lord literally moved a storm for our outdoor wedding, but that’s another story. 🙂

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about the Goodmansons! This is just a snapshot, but we promise to be as transparent as we can be throughout this journey. Honestly, we still can’t believe we are here, but we are beyond excited and anticipate the Lord to do things greater than we can think or imagine in this new season! We pray we become more like him in this and pray He guides you in your own journey as well.
We are all in-process here. I can’t wait to share what else the Lord brings to fruition with you! I’m certain it will stretch us and potentially cause some discomfort, but if it brings Him glory, so be it. Thanks for tagging along in this wild ride with us. We appreciate it more than you know.
Humbly,
Isaak and Mads Goodmanson
